Thai Retail Sector Projects 3% Growth for 2026
The Thai Retailers Association forecasts a market value of 4.38 trillion baht for 2026, citing an uneven economic recovery.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Thai Retailers Association (TRA) has projected that Thailand's retail market will grow by 3% in 2026, reaching an estimated value of 4.38 trillion baht. Following his reappointment for a second term, TRA President Natt Wongpanich described the current economic landscape as an 'uneven recovery,' characterized by cautious consumer spending and high household debt.
For residents and travelers, this outlook suggests a retail environment that is expanding gradually rather than rapidly. While the sector remains competitive, businesses are focusing on cost management and liquidity, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The TRA is currently implementing a strategy known as 'ACT' to foster inclusive growth and fair competition, while simultaneously lobbying the government to introduce measures that could stimulate purchasing power.
What this means for those in Thailand is a retail market that is actively trying to position the country as a regional shopping destination. However, the actual impact on consumer prices and the availability of goods remains to be seen, as the sector continues to navigate challenges related to household debt and fluctuating economic conditions. The TRA’s success in its negotiations with the government regarding SME support and market regulations is a key factor that may influence the retail landscape in the coming months.
