Southern Thailand Mangosteen Production Surges by 75%
The Department of Internal Trade is launching emergency measures to manage a 75% increase in southern mangosteen yields, aiming to stabilize prices for farmers.
According to Khaosod Online, the Thai Department of Internal Trade (DIT) is implementing proactive measures to manage a significant surge in southern mangosteen production for 2026. Total output is projected to reach 139,000 tons, representing a 75% increase compared to 2025.
To prevent a potential collapse in market prices, the DIT has launched a campaign titled "Eat Southern Mangosteens, Help Thai Farmers," featuring celebrity promoter A-Supachai. The agency is facilitating the distribution of over 500 tons of fruit through various retail channels and trade fairs. Furthermore, three dedicated auction sites have been established in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Chumphon provinces, with a target to aggregate 10,000 tons to foster price competition and provide farmers with more selling options.
For residents and travelers, this surplus may lead to increased availability and lower retail prices for high-quality mangosteens in local markets throughout the southern region. While these measures are currently underway, the long-term impact on market stability remains to be confirmed as the harvest season progresses. The DIT continues to monitor the supply chain to ensure that the increased volume reaches consumers efficiently without overwhelming local logistics.
