NACC Investigating TH-AI Passport Project Allegations

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has confirmed it is actively investigating the 'TH-AI Passport' project following a formal complaint. Surapong Intarathaworn, Secretary-General of the NACC, stated that the agency has implemented proactive measures to address concerns regarding potential corruption.

The investigation was initiated after Warong Dechgitvigrom, leader of the Thai Pakdee Party, submitted a request for the NACC to examine the conduct of Chaiyamika Chidchob, the Minister of Digital Economy and Society. The complaint alleges that the project may have been structured to favor specific private companies through 'spec-locking'—a practice where project requirements are tailored to ensure a particular vendor wins a contract.

For residents and travelers, this investigation is significant as it concerns the integrity of national digital identification and travel documentation systems. While the NACC has urged the public not to be concerned, the outcome of this inquiry remains to be seen.
