Nearly 20 Injured in Massive Giant Honey Bee Attack in Chonburi
A swarm of giant honey bees attacked vendors, police, and students near the Bang Lamung District Office, leaving nearly 20 people injured, including one elderly woman in critical condition.
On August 20, 2026, a significant incident involving a swarm of giant honey bees occurred near the Bang Lamung District Office in Na Kluea, Chonburi. According to reports from Khaosod Online, the bees swarmed from a large rain tree located near a food and beverage area adjacent to the district office, the Bang Lamung Police Station, and Bang Lamung School.
Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation arrived at the scene around 10:20 a.m. following reports of multiple stings. Initial assessments indicated that nearly 20 individuals were injured, with 10 requiring immediate medical attention. Victims suffered from severe swelling and allergic reactions. Among those injured was a 71-year-old woman, identified as Mrs. Oranong, who reportedly sustained nearly 100 stings and was transported to Pattaya Phatthanakun Hospital in critical condition.
For residents and travelers in the area, this incident highlights the potential risks posed by wildlife in public spaces, particularly near large trees where hives may be concealed. While the immediate area was attended to by rescue teams, it remains to be confirmed if the hive has been safely removed or if further precautions are necessary for those visiting the government complex.
