National Savings Fund Warns of Rising Financial Fraud Risks in Thailand

A recent survey reveals that nearly 60% of Thais are concerned about money laundering and financial scams, prompting the National Savings Fund to urge caution.

The National Savings Fund (NSF) has issued a warning regarding financial security following a Suan Dusit Poll conducted between August 11 and 14, 2026. The survey indicates that 59.77% of respondents are highly concerned about money laundering, while 48.31% reported direct experience with financial threats, most commonly involving illicit loan advertisements and suspicious investment schemes.

For residents and expatriates, this data highlights a significant climate of financial risk. The poll suggests that 78.80% of the public is calling for stricter enforcement against major perpetrators and improved oversight mechanisms. Furthermore, 56.13% of respondents attributed these issues to a lack of financial literacy, which increases the risk of individuals inadvertently engaging in illegal transactions or losing savings to scammers.

In response, the NSF is promoting its state-regulated savings program as a secure alternative for informal workers, including freelancers and small business owners. The fund emphasizes its oversight by the Ministry of Finance and its role in providing financial education. While the government is actively promoting these secure channels, it remains to be confirmed how effectively new regulatory measures will curb the prevalence of these scams. Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution when encountering unsolicited investment opportunities or non-traditional loan offers, as the landscape of financial fraud remains a persistent concern.
