Thai Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Dental Clinics

On August 20, 2026, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Thailand, in coordination with the Samut Sakhon Provincial Public Health Office, conducted a coordinated operation against unlicensed dental practitioners. According to a report by Khaosod Online, authorities raided five locations across Bangkok, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon, resulting in the arrest of five individuals—four posing as dentists and one as a medical practitioner.

During the raids, officials seized 56 categories of medical equipment and materials, totaling 1,058 items with an estimated value of 330,000 baht. Investigations revealed that the suspects, some of whom reportedly lacked formal medical training and claimed to have learned procedures via online videos, were offering services such as fashion braces, retainers, and dentures from their private residences. The operation was initiated following reports from the Samut Sakhon Public Health Office and tips from the public regarding unauthorized dental services.

For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the risks associated with seeking medical or dental procedures from non-certified providers. While these services are often marketed at lower costs, they lack the regulatory oversight required for patient safety. It remains to be confirmed whether any patients suffered long-term health complications from these specific providers, and the legal proceedings against the five individuals are currently ongoing.
