Thai Ministry of Commerce Monitors Essential Goods Prices Amid Flooding

According to Khaosod Online, the Thai Ministry of Commerce has issued a directive to provincial commercial offices to strictly monitor the supply and pricing of essential goods in areas impacted by recent flooding. The directive follows severe weather events, including flash floods and landslides, which have affected over 4,500 households in Nan province and caused overflow issues in Phayao province.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supachai Suthamphun has instructed officials to coordinate with relevant sectors to distribute food and drinking water to those in need. Provincial offices are tasked with ensuring that retailers do not hoard goods, refuse sales, or unfairly increase prices during this crisis.

For residents and travelers, this means that while authorities are working to maintain supply chains, local shortages or logistical disruptions may occur in affected areas. The Ministry is also monitoring potential flood risks in other northern provinces, including Sukhothai, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai.

It remains to be confirmed how long these supply chain monitoring measures will remain in effect and whether specific price caps will be formally implemented if shortages persist.
