The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has ordered the Pollution Control Department to monitor waste disposal and wastewater treatment systems in flood-prone areas.
According to a report by Prachachat Business on August 20, 2026, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart has directed the Pollution Control Department (PCD) to closely monitor waste disposal sites and wastewater treatment systems in regions currently facing flood risks. The directive aims to prevent potential system malfunctions, the dispersal of waste by floodwaters, and the contamination of water sources by leachate.
For residents and travelers, this initiative is significant as it seeks to mitigate environmental and health hazards associated with flooding. Contaminated water can pose serious risks, and the failure of waste management systems could lead to localized sanitation issues in affected provinces.
As of the latest assessment, the PCD has inspected sites in Nan province, including the Tha Wang Pha and Nan City municipal waste disposal areas. Preliminary findings indicate that these specific locations have not yet been impacted by the current flooding. While these initial reports are reassuring for those in the Nan area, the situation remains fluid. Authorities continue to assess other high-risk zones across the country.
