Severe Flooding Hits Nan Province Economic Zone
Floodwaters from northern areas have inundated Nan’s city center, reaching depths of 1.5 meters in low-lying areas.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 20, 2026, the city of Nan is currently experiencing significant flooding. Water from northern regions has surged into the municipal area, impacting key economic zones, including residential neighborhoods, businesses, hotels, and historical sites such as Wat Phumin.
As of 7:00 AM, the water level at the N.1 station near the Forestry Office was recorded at 8.53 meters, which is 7 meters above the riverbank. While general flooding in the city is reported at approximately 50 centimeters, low-lying areas near the Nan River—specifically Ban Tha Chang, Ban Don Kaeo, Ban Suan Tan Lang, Ban Don Si Soem, and the Phuang Phayom-Tha Li area—have seen water levels rise to 1.5 meters. The situation is exacerbated by water backflowing through drainage systems.
For residents and travelers, this poses significant disruption to local infrastructure and access to historical landmarks. The provincial governor has ordered 24-hour monitoring of the situation. Officials currently anticipate that this event will be less severe than the flooding experienced in 2025, though water levels continue to rise. Travelers are advised to monitor local updates closely, as the full extent of the impact on transportation and tourism services remains to be confirmed.
