Flood Emergency Declared in Nan Province Following Heavy Rainfall
Thai officials have established a command center in Nan province to manage severe flooding caused by record-breaking rainfall, with water levels threatening to overflow riverbanks.
On August 19, 2026, Thai government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Yotchanan Wongswasdi, visited the N.1 station in Nan province to oversee flood mitigation efforts. The region has experienced persistent heavy rainfall, with Pua district recording 277.6 millimeters of precipitation within a 24-hour period. This extreme weather has triggered flash floods and the overflow of the Nan, Pua, Yang, and Khwang rivers.
According to Khaosod Online Thailand, four districts—Pua, Phu Phiang, Santi Suk, and Tha Wang Pha—are currently affected, with floodwaters reaching depths between 0.50 and 1.20 meters. In response, authorities have ordered the reinforcement of flood embankments by 60 centimeters and established a 'Single Command' center to coordinate emergency operations throughout the night.
For residents and travelers in the area, this situation presents significant risks regarding transportation and infrastructure stability. The rapid rise of water levels may lead to road closures and power disruptions.
