Parliamentary Committee Investigates Shooting of Narathiwat MP

A House of Representatives committee, led by Rangsiman Rome and advisor Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, recently visited Yala and Songkhla provinces to review law enforcement and human rights protections in the Deep South. A primary focus of their visit was the ongoing investigation into the shooting of Narathiwat MP Kamolsak Leewamoh.

During discussions at the Royal Thai Police’s forward operations center in Yala, Pol. Col. Tawee urged investigators to trace the origin of two M16 rifles used in the attack. Authorities noted that these specific weapons were previously linked to an incident behind Narathiwat Rajanagarindra University. Officials have been tasked with verifying the weapons' history through manufacturers and customs records to determine their original distribution.

This case is significant for residents and visitors, as public perception in the region has been impacted by suspicions that the attack may have involved state actors, potentially undermining trust in the local justice system. The committee has requested that police conduct a transparent investigation, including examining reports of individuals who were allegedly tracking the MP prior to the incident. While suspects have been charged, the investigation remains ongoing.
