A Decade of Devotion: The World’s Largest Hollyhock Garden Opens to Visitors
A Chinese couple has transformed a barren valley into a massive floral sanctuary, now open to the public, fulfilling a long-held childhood dream.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a heartwarming story of dedication has emerged from Chengdu, Sichuan. Zhou Xiaolin, a Chinese husband, has spent ten years creating what is now considered one of the world’s largest and most diverse hollyhock gardens. The project began in 2013 after his wife, Yin Jie, shared her childhood fondness for the flower. Despite having no prior gardening experience, Zhou sold his home to purchase land in Zhuanlong and dedicated a decade to cultivating the site.
The garden now spans over 500 rai (approximately 200 acres) and features an impressive collection of over 700 varieties of hollyhocks, alongside 150,000 lilies and 100,000 Chinese hibiscus plants. This labor of love, intended to honor his wife of 35 years, has successfully turned a once-barren valley into a vibrant floral destination.
