Thailand to Open M6 Motorway Section for Weekend Travel
Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn announced that a 110-kilometer stretch of the M6 motorway will be free to use on weekends starting August 21, 2026.
According to Khaosod Online Thailand, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has inspected the progress of the M6 motorway project connecting Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima. During his visit, he confirmed that a 110-kilometer section between Bang Pa-in and Pak Chong will open for trial use starting at 12:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026.
This trial service is intended to operate every weekend, specifically from Friday at noon through Sunday. The M6 motorway, which spans a total of 196 kilometers, serves as a vital infrastructure link between Bangkok and the northeastern region. For residents and travelers, this development is expected to provide an alternative route, potentially reducing travel time and easing traffic congestion on the Phahonyothin and Mittraphap roads. Furthermore, the project aims to lower logistics costs and support regional tourism and trade.
While this weekend trial offers immediate relief for travelers, the Ministry of Transport has set a broader goal to open the entire 196-kilometer route for free public use by the New Year of 2027. Travelers should note that while the weekend trial is confirmed, specific operational details regarding entry and exit points for this 110-kilometer segment should be verified through official government announcements as the launch date approaches.
