Flash Floods Impact Healthcare Facilities in Nan Province
Heavy flooding in Nan province has disrupted operations at Somdej Phra Yuparat Pua Hospital, prompting emergency response measures from the Ministry of Public Health.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 19, 2026, the Ministry of Public Health has initiated emergency measures following severe flash floods and river overflows in Nan province. The situation has significantly impacted the Somdej Phra Yuparat Pua Hospital in Pua District, where staff and patients are currently dealing with flood-related challenges.
Key infrastructure, including the main Pua–Chiang Klang road, is currently impassable for small vehicles, which has disrupted medical referral systems in the northern region. In response, the hospital has repurposed Building 114 to accommodate patients who have been discharged but are unable to return home, as well as staff members who have been displaced by the rising waters. Additionally, flooding in Santi Suk District has forced residents to evacuate, with some individuals reported stranded in Ban Si Bun Rueang.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health has ordered hospitals across six districts to maintain a high state of alert for the next 48 hours. For travelers and residents, this situation implies potential delays in emergency medical services and significant travel disruptions in the affected areas. It remains to be confirmed how long the road closures will persist and whether further evacuations will be required as authorities continue to monitor the floodwaters and deploy sandbags to protect critical facilities.
