On August 19, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) released its 9th official announcement regarding severe weather conditions affecting the upper parts of Thailand. According to the report, a monsoon trough passing through the North and upper Northeast, combined with strong southwesterly winds over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to these regions through August 21, 2026.
Residents and travelers in these areas are advised to exercise extreme caution. The TMD warns of potential flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near hillsides or natural waterways. Authorities have specifically recommended avoiding travel through routes prone to recurring flooding.
Marine conditions are also affected, with the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand experiencing waves between 2 and 3 meters, potentially exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. Small boats in these zones are advised to remain ashore. For the lower Andaman Sea, waves are expected to reach approximately 2 meters, with higher swells during storms. Mariners are urged to navigate with caution and avoid areas experiencing thunderstorms.
