Thailand Integrates Space Tech and AI for Wildlife and Forest Conservation
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has partnered with Thaicom to deploy satellite technology and AI to monitor wildlife and protect forest areas.
On August 19, 2026, Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Thaicom Public Company Limited to modernize the management of the nation’s natural resources. According to Khaosod Online, the collaboration aims to integrate space technology, satellite communications, geographic information systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) into conservation efforts.
The initiative focuses on enhancing the protection of forest reserves and improving the monitoring of wildlife, specifically targeting the tracking of wild elephants and dugongs. By leveraging these advanced technologies, the ministry intends to increase the safety of field personnel and improve disaster surveillance capabilities across the country. MNRE Permanent Secretary Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej stated that this partnership marks a significant transition toward becoming a data-driven organization, allowing for more precise management of environmental challenges.
