Thailand Targets 600,000 Tons of Rice Exports to the Philippines
Thai trade officials and exporters are strengthening ties with the Philippines to boost rice shipments, following a 110% surge in exports during the first half of the year.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of Foreign Trade and the Thai Rice Exporters Association have launched a strategic initiative to expand Thailand's presence in the Philippine rice market. On August 3, 2026, a delegation led by Deputy Director-General Chanintorn Rimcharoen visited Manila to address trade barriers and promote high-quality Thai rice.
The delegation held discussions with key Philippine entities, including Food Terminal Incorporated (FTI), the Philippine Rice Importers Association (PRIA), and the Philippine Rice Industry Stakeholders Movement (PRISM). These talks focused on food security policies, market trends, and logistics improvements. Additionally, the group consulted with the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) regarding agricultural import regulations.
This push follows a significant performance in the first half of 2026, during which Thai rice exports to the Philippines grew by 110%. Officials are now confident that total annual exports will exceed 600,000 tons. For residents and travelers, this development highlights a strengthening of bilateral trade relations, which may influence the availability and pricing of agricultural goods in the region.
