10 Million Methamphetamine Pills Seized in Chiang Rai
Thai naval authorities intercepted a massive drug shipment along the Mekong River in Chiang Rai province, with suspects currently at large.
On August 19, 2026, the Mekong Riverine Unit (MRU) in Chiang Rai conducted an operation near the Mekong River bank in Ban Tha Khan Thong, Chiang Saen District. According to Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiphan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, as reported by Khaosod Online, officers discovered a Mitsubishi vehicle loaded with suspicious sacks. The individuals associated with the vehicle managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Upon inspection, authorities found 34 sacks containing approximately 10 million methamphetamine pills, with an estimated street value of 350 million baht. The seized narcotics and the vehicle have been transported to the MRU Chiang Rai headquarters for detailed forensic examination and evidence processing. Officials are currently coordinating with relevant agencies to track down the suspects and dismantle the associated trafficking network.
