Immigration Police Uncover Illegal Thai Citizenship Scheme

According to a report by Khaosod Online on August 19, 2026, the Immigration Bureau Division 3 (IBD3) has taken legal action against four individuals involved in a scheme to illegally register foreign children as Thai citizens. The investigation, led by IBD3 Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Songprod Sirisukha, focused on individuals providing false information to authorities to gain improper benefits.

The investigation began after a Chinese national, identified as Ms. Huang, applied for residency based on caring for a Thai child. DNA testing revealed that the two children listed as having a Thai father were actually the biological children of a Chinese national, Mr. Yuelong. Authorities suspect a coordinated effort to disguise the children's foreign status. A second similar case was uncovered involving another Chinese national, Ms. Wang, who admitted that her child was not fathered by the Thai man listed on the birth certificate, but by a Chinese national named Mr. Zhu.

For residents and travelers, this case highlights the Thai government's ongoing efforts to verify the integrity of civil registration documents. While these specific cases involve fraudulent birth registrations, they underscore the importance of maintaining accurate documentation when dealing with Thai authorities.
