Urgent Flood Preparedness Measures Ordered for Northern Thailand
Authorities have issued an urgent directive for Nan, Phayao, and Lamphun provinces to implement 24-hour flood and flash flood response plans.
On August 19, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yoschanan Wongsawas issued an urgent directive to the provinces of Nan, Phayao, and Lamphun. According to a report by Prachachat Business, these northern provinces are required to activate eight specific flood and flash flood response plans to ensure public safety.
As part of these measures, authorities have been instructed to maintain 24-hour monitoring and utilize the Cell Broadcast system to issue real-time alerts to residents and visitors in the affected areas. Furthermore, the government has placed KA-32 helicopters on standby to facilitate rapid response and rescue operations should conditions deteriorate.
