Opposition Calls for Action Against Illegal Factories in Prachin Buri
The People's Party shadow cabinet has urged the Prime Minister to authorize immigration officials to inspect illegal factories in Prachin Buri following reports of environmental hazards and intimidation.
On August 19, 2026, Karunpon Tiensuwan, a list MP from the People's Party, addressed the media at the Parliament regarding the ongoing environmental crisis in Prachin Buri province. Representing the shadow cabinet, Karunpon stated that the situation in the area, particularly in Tha Tum sub-district, has deteriorated. Residents have reported severe issues including the illegal dumping of industrial toxic waste, foul odors, and water pollution.
According to the report from Khaosod Online, Karunpon highlighted that while five factories operate in the area, four are foreign-owned. He raised concerns that these entities may be utilizing illicit influence to evade regulatory oversight, noting that previous government inspections have failed to resolve the issues. Furthermore, he alleged that local activists advocating for government intervention have been targeted with bounties on their heads.
Karunpon has formally urged the Prime Minister to demonstrate leadership by signing an order that empowers immigration authorities to conduct thorough inspections of these facilities. For residents and visitors, this situation underscores ongoing concerns regarding industrial regulation and environmental health in the region.
