Authorities Mobilize Emergency Response as Floodwaters Approach Nan City
The Thai Ministry of Interior has ordered maximum preparedness in Nan province as floodwaters are expected to reach the city center by August 20, 2026.
On August 19, 2026, Deputy Minister of Interior Jasetseth Thaiseth chaired a meeting at the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to address the flash flood crisis in Northern Thailand. According to Khaosod Online, officials have been instructed to maintain the highest level of readiness as significant water volumes are projected to arrive in Nan’s city center and Tha Wang Pha district by August 20.
To facilitate rescue operations, the government has deployed jet skis, boats, and helicopters to the affected areas. Authorities are prioritizing the evacuation of vulnerable groups and have directed local teams to monitor social media platforms to identify and respond to urgent requests for assistance from residents. Deputy Minister Jasetseth emphasized that the primary objective is to prevent any loss of life during the emergency.
