ING Reduces Stake in TTB Bank; TTB Confirms Business Continuity
ING Bank has sold a portion of its shares in TMBThanachart Bank (TTB), reducing its stake to 11.6%, while TTB maintains its strategic direction and share buyback program.
On August 18, 2026, ING Bank N.V. announced the sale of shares in TMBThanachart Bank (TTB) through a private placement to institutional investors. The transaction, valued at approximately 475 million euros, is expected to reduce ING’s shareholding in the Thai bank from 19.5% to 11.6% once the settlement is completed, which is anticipated by August 21, 2026. According to Khaosod Online, ING described the move as part of its ongoing proactive capital management strategy to optimize its investment portfolio.
TTB has issued a statement clarifying that this change in shareholding will not impact the bank’s management structure or its core business strategy. The bank noted that the sale is expected to increase the stock's free float and improve long-term liquidity in the market. Furthermore, TTB confirmed that it continues to move forward with its share buyback program. The bank currently has 14 billion baht remaining in its buyback budget, out of a total approved framework of 35 billion baht.
For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this development signals a shift in the bank's ownership structure but does not suggest immediate changes to banking services or operational stability. While the bank has provided assurances regarding its strategic continuity, the final impact on market liquidity and the completion of the settlement process remain to be observed.
