Luang Pho Chamnian Silasettho, the influential abbot of Wat Tham Suea in Krabi, has passed away in Malaysia at the age of 90.
According to reports from Khaosod Online Thailand, Luang Pho Chamnian Silasettho, a highly respected meditation master and the presiding monk of Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple) in Krabi, passed away in Malaysia on August 18, 2026. He was 90 years old and had served in the monkhood for 69 years.
Born on May 1, 1936, in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Luang Pho Chamnian was a pivotal figure in the development of Wat Tham Suea. Under his leadership, the site evolved from a secluded meditation center into one of Southern Thailand’s most prominent landmarks for both spiritual practice and tourism. His lifelong dedication to Vipassana meditation earned him widespread recognition across the region.
