Department of Mineral Resources Issues Landslide and Flash Flood Warning for 15 Provinces
Authorities have issued a three-day alert for potential landslides and flash floods across 15 provinces in Thailand, primarily in the northern region.
On August 19, 2026, the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued an urgent warning regarding the risk of landslides and flash floods. According to Khaosod Online, the alert covers 15 provinces and is effective from August 19 to August 21, 2026.
The provinces identified for close monitoring include Nan, Phayao, Phrae, Uttaradit, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Mae Hong Son, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Kanchanaburi, Chanthaburi, and Trat. The DMR has specifically highlighted districts within these provinces, such as Pua, Bo Kluea, Tha Wang Pha, and Mae Charim in Nan, as areas requiring heightened vigilance.
For residents and travelers, this warning signifies a potential risk to safety in mountainous or low-lying areas prone to sudden water surges and soil instability. Those currently in or planning to visit these regions are advised to monitor local weather updates and follow instructions from local disaster management networks. While the DMR has mobilized volunteer networks to assist in monitoring, the specific severity of impact in each district remains subject to local weather developments. Travelers should exercise caution when navigating roads in these provinces, as heavy rainfall may lead to hazardous conditions.
