Three Arrested in Chiang Mai for Copper Wire Theft and Vandalism
Chiang Mai authorities have apprehended three individuals accused of stealing over 100 kilograms of copper wire and water pumps, following a viral video of the suspects rapping during their criminal activities.
On August 18, 2026, police in Chiang Mai, including officers from Hang Dong, Chang Phueak, and Phu Phing stations, arrested three suspects for the theft of copper wiring and water pumps. The group, identified as two men aged 20 and 21, and a 15-year-old minor, were apprehended at a scrap metal shop in the Chang Phueak sub-district.
According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the investigation began after reports of water pump thefts in the Hang Dong area. Upon questioning, the suspects admitted to systematically stripping copper wire from an abandoned hotel in the Chang Phueak area. The case gained significant public attention after the suspects recorded a video of themselves rapping while committing the thefts, which they reportedly shared online.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights ongoing issues with property crime and vandalism in certain areas of Chiang Mai. While the suspects are currently in custody, the full extent of their criminal activities remains under investigation by local authorities.
