Special Investigation Launched into Local Government Exam Fraud
Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission has partnered with the Crime Suppression Division to investigate widespread irregularities in local government recruitment exams.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has appointed the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) to join a special investigative committee regarding corruption in local government recruitment examinations. Police Lieutenant General Nattasak Chaowana-sai, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, stated that the NACC has transferred documentation for further investigation. Authorities are currently focusing on identifying brokers and the individuals behind the scheme.
Previous NACC findings suggest that a former Director-General of the Department of Local Administration and several associates allegedly manipulated exam scores and solicited bribes from applicants to guarantee passing grades. The Ministry of Interior has also conducted internal audits, identifying instances where answer sheets were altered. Currently, 13 individuals, including the former Director-General, are facing legal proceedings.
For residents and expatriates, this case highlights ongoing efforts to address systemic corruption within public institutions. While the investigation is a matter of national interest, it underscores the importance of transparency in government hiring processes. Authorities expect to provide a clearer update on the status of the investigation, particularly regarding the involvement of third-party brokers, by late August or early September 2026.
