Thailand Seeks to Host Canva’s Regional AI-Design Hub
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has met with Canva executives in Sydney to propose the establishment of a regional office and an AI-Design Research Center in Thailand.
On August 18, 2026, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led a delegation to Sydney, Australia, to strengthen economic and investment ties. During the visit, the Thai government and the Board of Investment (BOI) engaged in discussions with Canva, the global technology firm, regarding the potential expansion of its business operations into Thailand.
According to Khaosod Online, the Thai government has formally invited Canva to consider establishing a regional office and an AI-Design Research Center within the country. Officials highlighted Thailand’s creative potential, noting that the platform currently serves approximately 7 million monthly active users in Thailand, with over 30 million cumulative accounts. The initiative aims to leverage this user base to foster local design talent and integrate Thai creators into the global market, further supporting the nation’s creative economy.
For residents and those interested in Thailand’s digital landscape, this proposal signals a potential shift toward becoming a regional hub for creative technology and AI-driven design. However, it remains to be confirmed whether Canva will accept the invitation or commit to specific investments.
