Cholera Outbreak Reported in Yangon
At least 500 people have been hospitalized in Yangon following a surge in severe diarrhea cases, with 149 testing positive for cholera in rapid tests.
According to a report by Khaosod English, a significant health concern has emerged in Yangon, Myanmar. Regional Social Affairs Minister Bo Htay informed the regional parliament on Monday that at least 500 individuals have been hospitalized due to severe diarrhea since August 9, 2026.
Of those hospitalized, 149 people have returned positive results for cholera via rapid testing. Minister Bo Htay further clarified that, as of the latest update, nine cases have been officially confirmed as Vibrio cholerae infections through laboratory verification.
