Thailand Issues Landslide and Flash Flood Warnings for Seven Provinces
The Department of Mineral Resources has issued an urgent alert for seven provinces due to heavy rainfall, warning residents and travelers of potential landslides and flash floods.
On August 18, 2026, the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued a warning for seven provinces: Tak, Nan, Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Loei, and Sa Kaeo. According to Khaosod Online, the alert follows forecasts of continuous heavy rainfall, which increases the risk of landslides and flash floods in these specific regions.
The Thai Meteorological Department reports that a monsoon trough moving across upper Laos and Vietnam, combined with strengthening southwest monsoons over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, is driving these severe weather conditions. Residents and travelers in these areas are advised to exercise caution, particularly those located near foothills, natural waterways, or low-lying areas prone to sudden flooding.
Local volunteer networks have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and remain prepared for potential geological hazards. While the DMR has mandated that officials be ready to inspect affected areas immediately should incidents occur, the exact timing and severity of these events remain subject to changing weather patterns. Travelers planning to visit these provinces are encouraged to stay updated on local weather reports and follow instructions from regional authorities to ensure their safety during this period of heightened risk.
