Passenger Van Accident in Roi Et Leaves Two Dead
A passenger van traveling from Bangkok to Mukdahan crashed and caught fire in Roi Et province, resulting in two fatalities and multiple injuries.
On the morning of August 18, 2026, a passenger van carrying 14 people, including the driver, was involved in a fatal accident on the Kalasin-Mukdahan road near Ban Khok Lam in Roi Et province. According to reports from Khaosod Online, the vehicle lost control, veered off the road, overturned, and was subsequently engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders and fire crews were dispatched to the scene following a 05:20 report to the 191 emergency center. Preliminary information indicates that the van was transporting passengers of Lao nationality from Bangkok toward Mukdahan. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives in the incident, and several others sustained injuries.
Some survivors have alleged that the driver was operating the vehicle at a high speed and appeared drowsy, claiming that passengers had attempted to warn the driver prior to the crash. For travelers and residents, this incident highlights the ongoing concerns regarding road safety on long-distance routes in Thailand. While the immediate emergency response has concluded, local police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the definitive cause of the accident.
