Online Backlash Against Doctor’s Page Over Patient Shaming

According to a report by Khaosod Online, a popular Thai medical social media page is facing intense public criticism for 'shaming' a patient. The incident involves a pregnant woman in Khon Kaen who visited an emergency room with symptoms of a fever, cough, and abdominal pain following a fall. Her husband, frustrated by a long wait time, posted about the delay on social media. The medical page subsequently shared the husband's post, mocking the couple for visiting the emergency room for minor symptoms.

This public shaming triggered a wave of online harassment against the patient, with users targeting her family’s business and threatening legal action. It was later confirmed by hospital staff that the patient was suffering from uterine contractions and a threatened miscarriage, requiring immediate admission.

This case highlights the growing tension between patient privacy, social media conduct, and the ethics of medical professionals in Thailand. For residents and travelers, it underscores the risks of social media exposure when navigating the healthcare system. While the medical page has since been deactivated, the incident remains a subject of significant public debate.
