Construction Business Owners in Chonburi Harassed by Loan Sharks Seeking Former Employee
Two construction company owners in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, have reported harassment by illegal debt collectors searching for a former employee who used their contact information to secure a loan.
On August 17, 2026, two construction business owners in the Bang Lamung district of Chonburi, identified as 25-year-old Wichian and 22-year-old Phanuwat, reported being targeted by individuals they believe to be illegal loan sharks. According to a report by Khaosod Online, the debt collectors arrived at the business premises near the Mitr Kamol intersection in Nong Prue, demanding repayment for a loan taken out by a former employee known as 'Chai.'
The business owners stated that Chai, who is no longer employed by the firm and is currently unreachable, allegedly used their phone numbers as references when applying for the loan without their consent. The victims reported that the collectors have engaged in intimidation tactics, including spray-painting property and knocking over two motorcycles. The owners have filed a police report, expressing significant concern for their safety and requesting that authorities apprehend the individuals involved.
For residents and expatriates in the area, this incident highlights the risks associated with the misuse of personal contact information by third parties in informal financial arrangements. While the business owners have clarified they have no legal obligation to repay the debt, the situation remains distressing. It is yet to be confirmed whether the police have identified the suspects or if the former employee has been located to address the outstanding debt.
