Songkhla Prepares for Potential Flooding with New Mitigation Measures
Songkhla authorities have identified 22 flood-risk zones and deployed 12 large-scale water pumps to prepare for the upcoming rainy season.
On August 17, 2026, officials in Songkhla province held a meeting to coordinate disaster preparedness for the 2026 rainy season. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, Deputy Governor Jirawat Maneechot led the session, which focused on mitigating risks from floods, storms, and landslides.
To address potential emergencies, the Songkhla Irrigation Project has implemented a six-point strategy. This includes the designation of 22 specific areas for flood monitoring, the strategic management of reservoir water levels, and the installation of 12 large-scale water pumps ready for immediate deployment. Additionally, authorities have conducted inspections of hydraulic structures, telemetry systems, and flood embankments, while also clearing weeds from waterways to improve drainage efficiency.
These efforts are supported by a 603-million-baht central budget allocated for flood relief and water management infrastructure. For residents and travelers, these measures indicate a proactive approach to seasonal weather risks. While the infrastructure is being readied, the actual impact of the upcoming rainy season remains to be seen.
