Tragic Drowning Incident in Samut Songkhram

On August 17, 2026, local authorities in Bang Khonthi District, Samut Songkhram, responded to a report of a fatal drowning. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, an 85-year-old man, who worked as a gardener, was discovered face-down in the mud of a canal adjacent to his residence. The victim was found by his 57-year-old son, who had returned home to find his father missing.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Phisin Nupinit of the Bang Khonthi Police Station, along with medical personnel from Naphalai Hospital and local rescue teams, arrived at the scene to conduct an initial investigation. The preliminary examination of the body revealed no signs of physical assault or external injuries. Officials estimate that the man had been deceased for approximately one to two hours before being discovered.

Authorities currently hypothesize that the victim may have suffered a sudden medical episode, such as a fainting spell, which caused him to fall into the canal.
