Four Spanish Tourists Injured by Falling Tree at Ayutthaya Historical Park
A large tree collapsed at Wat Phra Si Sanphet in Ayutthaya, injuring four Spanish tourists. The Minister of Tourism and Sports has ordered an immediate safety review of trees within historical sites.
On August 17, 2026, a large flamboyant tree suddenly collapsed at the Wat Phra Si Sanphet archaeological site in Ayutthaya, resulting in injuries to four Spanish tourists who were visiting the area. Emergency services transported the group to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital following the incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phancharoenworakul visited the hospital to oversee the care of the victims. One male tourist sustained serious injuries and underwent surgery, currently remaining in the intensive care unit. A female tourist is also hospitalized for observation. The remaining two individuals suffered minor abrasions and were discharged after receiving medical treatment.
In response to the accident, the Minister has instructed relevant agencies, including the Fine Arts Department and the Historical Park authorities, to conduct an urgent assessment of the structural integrity of large trees located along tourist paths and high-traffic areas. The Ministry has pledged to provide full support and medical care to the injured tourists to ensure their recovery. While the immediate safety of the site is being reviewed, travelers visiting historical parks in Thailand should remain aware of their surroundings, particularly during inclement weather or in areas with dense vegetation. Further updates regarding the safety measures implemented at the park are expected as authorities complete their inspections.
