Thai Industrial Standards Institute Debates New Rebar Regulations

The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) is currently engaged in intense deliberations regarding the draft of the TIS 24 standard for deformed steel bars. A central point of contention is whether the new regulations should mandate specific production processes, particularly concerning the use of Induction Furnace (IF) technology.

According to Prachachat Business, the TISI is working to finalize the draft before submitting it to the Industrial Product Standards Council (IPSC) for a decision, which is expected tomorrow. Attavit Suwannapakdee has emphasized that while the standard must be clearly defined, any necessary compensation for affected IF operators should not serve as a justification for delaying the implementation of the new safety and quality regulations.
