MCOT Launches Auction for 50-Rai Ratchada Land to Fund AI Media Expansion

According to Khaosod Online, MCOT Public Company Limited has officially opened the sale of bidding documents for a 50-rai land plot located in the Ratchada-Rama 9 district. The land, valued at over 9 billion baht, is being offered for long-term lease rights. Interested parties may purchase the bidding documents until August 26, 2026.

Ms. Yada Kasyapanan, Acting President of MCOT, stated that this initiative is part of the 'MCOT Next' strategy, which focuses on asset monetization to improve cash flow. The company intends to use the proceeds to support its transition into digital and streaming media, including investments in AI-driven drama production. MCOT aims to select a private partner and finalize contract negotiations by 2027. The company expects to increase annual revenue from this asset from 10 million baht to 100 million baht.

For residents and visitors, this development signals a significant shift in the utilization of prime land in the Ratchada area, which may lead to new commercial or media-related infrastructure projects in the coming years. While the auction process is underway, it remains to be confirmed which private entity will secure the lease. MCOT has also noted that if the long-term lease auction is unsuccessful, they have contingency plans to pivot to short-term leasing arrangements to ensure revenue growth.
