Thai Cabinet to Review Senior Appointments and Chana Deep-Sea Port Study
Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has been authorized to present senior civil servant appointments to the Cabinet, while also initiating a feasibility study for a new deep-sea port in Chana, Songkhla.
According to a report by Prachachat Business on August 17, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has empowered Minister of Labour Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn to lead discussions regarding the appointment of high-ranking civil servants during the upcoming Cabinet meeting. Minister Phiphat confirmed that the Prime Minister has approved the submission of these appointments for review.
When questioned about specific candidates, including potential shifts for the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Industry, Minister Phiphat declined to provide names. The outcome of these administrative appointments remains to be confirmed following the Cabinet's deliberation.
Additionally, the government is moving forward with infrastructure development in the south. Minister Phiphat announced plans to task the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) with conducting a feasibility study for a new deep-sea port in the Chana District of Songkhla Province. The project is intended to be developed through private sector investment.
