Activist Challenges Kla Tham Party Over Candidate Eligibility
Srisuwan Janya has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of Thailand, alleging that the Kla Tham party knowingly nominated an ineligible candidate for a Nakhon Si Thammarat parliamentary seat.
On August 17, 2026, Srisuwan Janya, leader of the 'Love Nation, Love Land' organization, submitted a petition to the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT). He is calling for an investigation into the executive committee and recruitment board of the Kla Tham party regarding their endorsement of Kongkiat Ketsombat as a parliamentary candidate for Nakhon Si Thammarat.
According to the complaint, Kongkiat was previously convicted in a case involving dishonest property-related offenses. Srisuwan argues that this history constitutes a disqualifying factor under Section 42 (12) of the Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives. Despite this, the party reportedly nominated him for elections in both 2025 and 2026. Srisuwan is requesting that the ECT determine if the party’s leadership violated the 2017 Organic Act on Political Parties by approving a candidate who lacked the legal qualifications to run.
