Soldier Injured in Landmine Incident at Chong An Ma
A Thai soldier sustained injuries during a landmine clearance operation near the Cambodian border in Ubon Ratchathani province.
On August 17, 2026, the Royal Thai Army confirmed that a soldier was injured while participating in a demining mission conducted by the Thailand Mine Action Center (TMAC). The incident occurred near Chong An Ma in the Nam Yuen district of Ubon Ratchathani province.
According to Major General Winthai Suvaree, the Army spokesperson, the soldier suffered injuries to his right ankle, right hand, and other parts of his body. He is currently conscious and in stable condition, having been transported to Sapphasitthiprasong Camp Hospital for medical treatment. The Army has expressed regret over the incident and has instructed the relevant units to provide full support to the injured personnel.
Major General Winthai explained that the area was previously occupied by Cambodian forces before being reclaimed by Thailand. The site has been designated as a restricted, dangerous zone to allow TMAC teams to safely locate and remove unexploded ordnance.
