Thailand Issues Flood and Landslide Alerts for 39 Provinces
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued warnings for flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides across 39 provinces, alongside high-wave alerts for the South.
The Thailand Government Public Relations Department reported that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a nationwide alert for severe weather conditions. From August 18 to 21, 2026, residents and travelers in 39 provinces across the Northern, Northeastern, and Central regions are advised to remain vigilant against the risks of flash floods, forest runoff, and landslides.
Additionally, the DDPM has issued a warning for three provinces in the Southern region, where residents and maritime operators should prepare for strong winds and high waves during the same period.
For those currently in or planning to visit these areas, it is essential to monitor local weather updates closely and follow instructions from provincial authorities. These weather events can lead to sudden road closures, disruptions in local transportation, and hazardous conditions in mountainous or coastal areas.
At this time, the specific districts most at risk have not been detailed in the initial announcement. Travelers are encouraged to check with local tourism offices or accommodation providers for site-specific safety information. As the situation is developing, authorities have not yet confirmed the full extent of potential impact, and individuals should prioritize safety by avoiding areas prone to flooding or unstable terrain until the alert period concludes.
