Investigation into Local Government Exam Fraud Intensifies
Thai authorities are escalating their probe into a major local government recruitment exam scandal, with new developments expected by the end of August.
According to Khaosod Online, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) is intensifying its investigation into a widespread fraud scheme involving local government recruitment examinations. Commissioner Lt. Gen. Natthasak Chaowanasai confirmed that the case remains active, with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) now appointing the Crime Suppression Division to join a special investigative committee.
Previous stages of the investigation led to summonses for several high-profile figures, including Ruangdej Sirikit, Director of the Office of Educational and Psychological Test Bureau at Srinakharinwirot University, and Theerut Suppawiboonpol, a former Director-General of the Department of Local Administration. These individuals are accused of involvement in a scheme to alter exam scores.
For residents and those interested in the integrity of Thai public institutions, this case highlights ongoing efforts to address corruption within the civil service recruitment process. While the investigation has already implicated government officials, authorities are now focusing on brokers and other influential figures behind the operation.
