Authorities Monitor Air Quality Following Peatland Fires in Nakhon Si Thammarat

According to a report by Khaosod Online, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin has directed the Pollution Control Department (PCD) to closely monitor air quality in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. This action follows a series of peatland fires in the Khuan Kreng area, specifically within the Cha-uat district, which have been active between August 13 and August 16, 2026.

Hot weather, dry conditions, and strong winds have contributed to the spread of the fires, resulting in smoke covering parts of the region. In response, the PCD has dispatched mobile monitoring stations to the affected areas to provide real-time data on PM2.5 levels and other pollutants. Dr. Surin Worakitthamrong, Director-General of the PCD, stated that the department is coordinating with local authorities to ensure that if air quality reaches levels hazardous to health, residents will be alerted immediately.
