Fire Destroys Home of 80-Year-Old Former Teacher in Ayutthaya
A fire in Bang Pahan district, Ayutthaya, destroyed a home belonging to an 80-year-old former teacher, revealing the remains of his late wife kept for over two decades.
On the night of August 16, 2026, a severe fire broke out at a semi-wooden Thai-style house in Bang Pahan district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, local authorities, including the Bang Pahan Police Station, were alerted to the blaze at approximately 11:30 PM. Due to strong winds and the narrow layout of the community, emergency responders from over 10 local fire units were required to contain the flames.
During the incident, responders discovered a coffin on the second floor containing the remains of the homeowner’s wife, who had passed away more than 20 years ago. The coffin fell to the ground floor during the fire, leaving only skeletal remains. Neighbors noted that the 80-year-old former teacher had maintained a deep attachment to his late wife, which explained the presence of the remains.
For residents and travelers in the area, this incident highlights the importance of fire safety in densely populated communities with older wooden structures. While the fire has been extinguished, the exact cause remains under investigation. Authorities are currently focusing their inquiry on a pile of old wood near the house and a cooking stove area used for preparing food for the owner's dogs.
