Thailand Issues Heavy Rain Warning for Northern and Northeastern Regions
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across northern and northeastern Thailand from August 18 to 21, 2026.
According to an announcement from the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) on August 17, 2026, residents and travelers in Thailand should prepare for significant weather disruptions. A monsoon trough is expected to pass through the northern and upper northeastern regions, while the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is strengthening.
From August 18 to 21, 2026, these conditions are forecast to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to specific areas. The TMD has highlighted the risk of flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near hillsides or natural waterways. Travelers are advised to exercise caution, avoid routes prone to recurring flooding, and stay updated on local weather reports.
Additionally, the TMD noted that sea conditions in the upper Andaman Sea are expected to become relatively strong between August 19 and 21. While the department has identified 24 provinces as being at higher risk for heavy precipitation, specific localized impacts remain subject to change based on real-time atmospheric developments.
