New Medical Facility Opens at Somdech Phra Pinklao Hospital
King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida presided over the opening of the Thotsamabophit Building, a new 14-story medical facility in Bangkok.
On August 16, 2026, King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida officially opened the Thotsamabophit Building at the Somdech Phra Pinklao Hospital in the Thon Buri district of Bangkok. According to Khaosod Online, the building was named by the King to honor the reign of the 10th monarch and to address the increasing demand for medical services among military personnel and the general public.
The new facility is a 14-story inpatient building covering over 20,300 square meters. It is equipped to accommodate 228 patient beds, including 184 general beds and 44 beds dedicated to critical and semi-critical care. The hospital designed the space specifically to improve the management of internal medicine and complex diseases.
For residents and travelers in Bangkok, this development represents a significant expansion of healthcare infrastructure in the Thon Buri area, potentially improving access to specialized medical care. During the ceremony, the royal couple also viewed the “Navi-Vej-Borirak” exhibition, which highlights the hospital's commitment to public health.
