GULF Expands 'Our PET Bottle' Recycling Initiative to Eastern Thailand
Gulf Energy Development has extended its waste-sorting program to seven additional locations, successfully upcycling over a ton of plastic waste.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, Gulf Energy Development (GULF) has expanded its 'Our PET Bottle' (Kor Khuad Khong Rao) initiative into its second year. The program, which encourages employees to sort plastic waste at the source, has now been extended from the company's Bangkok headquarters to seven of its power plant offices in the Eastern region of Thailand.
Between January and July 2026, the company collected 1,183 kilograms of PET plastic bottles. These materials were donated to Wat Chak Daeng, a temple known for its environmental initiatives, to be upcycled into new products such as monk robes, blankets, and clothing. Sitamon Rattanawadi, Director of Strategic Planning at GULF, stated that the project aims to foster a green corporate culture, noting that the initiative has contributed to a reduction of 2.48 tons of carbon emissions.
For residents and travelers, this initiative highlights a growing trend in corporate environmental responsibility within Thailand’s industrial sector. While the program currently focuses on internal corporate waste management, it reflects a broader societal shift toward circular economy practices. It remains to be confirmed whether GULF plans to expand this collection model to include public-facing drop-off points or if the initiative will be scaled to other regions of the country in the future.
