Mother Files Complaint After Abbot Allegedly Slaps Student Over Alms Incident

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a mother in the Phaisali District of Nakhon Sawan has initiated legal action against a local abbot following an incident at her son’s school. The student, who is in his first year of secondary school, reported that the incident occurred on August 12, 2026, during a merit-making ceremony held for Mother’s Day.

The student explained that while attempting to offer a package of instant noodles to the abbot, he was unable to reach the alms bowl due to other students blocking his path. He reportedly tossed the item into the bowl, which angered the abbot. The student alleges that the abbot slapped his face and subsequently reprimanded him in front of other students at the school’s activity area. The mother stated that her son has been left traumatized and embarrassed to the point of requesting to withdraw from the school. Although the school has issued an apology, the mother remains firm in her decision to pursue the case through the legal system.

For residents and visitors, this incident highlights the high level of respect expected during religious ceremonies in Thailand. While the school has acknowledged the situation, the formal police investigation is ongoing.
