Excise Department Seizes Over 40,000 Packs of Illegal Cigarettes in Chonburi

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 15, 2026, the Excise Department has successfully seized 40,500 packs of illegal cigarettes in Chonburi province. The seized goods are valued at approximately 3.6 million baht, with officials estimating that the associated fines could reach 38 million baht.

Excise Department Director-General Pornchai Thiravej stated that the agency is prioritizing the crackdown on illicit goods, particularly smuggled tobacco, which negatively impacts the national economy, state revenue, and fair trade practices. Following directives to increase surveillance and enforcement against tax evasion, a joint operation involving regional and local excise offices led to the inspection of suspicious parcels, resulting in the seizure.
